Manoj Bajpayee on Depression: Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee has recently talked about depression and told how he overcame it. He revealed that he was shocked after being rejected from the National School of Drama. Not only this, Manoj Bajpayee also told that he wanted to become an actor since childhood and this rejection deeply hurt his dream.

While talking to ANI, Manoj Bajpayee shared that he always aspired to be an actor since fifth grade. He told that once in the class he had read a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan and he was praised a lot for it. He said, “When I came down after reading this; Somewhere in my mind I had a resolve that I was going to act.

Wanted to become an actor since childhood

Bajpayee said, ‘My mind was set that after school I have to prepare for the National School of Drama and take admission there.’ Fast forward several years, when Manoj Bajpayee failed to clear the MBBS exam, he asked his father to let him prepare for UPSC in Delhi. However, his target was still NSD and when he could not get admission there, it had a deep impact on the actor. Bajpayee revealed that he went through a phase where he felt that all doors were closed for him, as he only had one plan and was not prepared to make any choices. The rejection from NSD took a toll on him and he found it difficult to cope with his loved ones during this time.

Suicidal thoughts used to come

He said, ‘By the time I went to the National School of Drama (NSD), I had become very experienced in those 3 years but still I was rejected. After that for a month I felt like everything was taken away because I never had a plan B. I never make a plan B. Started looking for a new way. Finally, a theater group of NSD alumni was conducting a 365-day workshop at Mandi House, in which I attended. I learned a lot there.”

Manoj Bajpayee told during this time that after the rejections, he remained in depression for some time and he used to have thoughts of suicide during this time. He stressed that such thoughts are not unusual for people who are suffering from depression. Bajpayee revealed, “I went into a depression where I did not know how to face my loved ones. And when you only have one plan, you feel like all doors are closed. This was the time when suicidal thoughts came to my mind.
